My new kit contains allot of decorations which seems to be galvanized in order to archieve a gold like appearance. I want to pain all the pieces should i steel brush the decorations to remove the coating or paint on top of the coating?
What do you do normally wjen painting the decorations?

I've tried several methods of painting plated castings. The best I've found is to brush as much of the plating off, then use a good metal primer, and last paint the colour you want.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. Great suggestions. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm just getting ready to build the deck components, and your info is really timely. Thanks.

If you paint without removing the coating I'd use an oil based paint for longevity. Acrylic seems to be more suited to wood and easily rubs off of metal.
