I used Aromatic Cedar and was wondering if I should use poly or other finish on it.

Hi Dave,

There is no problem using poly for a finish on the cedar, hand rubbed Tung oil works and looks fine also on cedar. The Tung oil if used will look its best if you sand the cedar with 400 grit sandpaper. Use the 400 grit lightly between coats, you be the judge on how many coats needed for the desired finish.

But either of the above finishes will diminish or take away the aromatic quality.....if that was what you disired.

I was looking for a contrasting look with the African Mahogany more so than for the scent. Its good to know there won't be long term problems with it being finished.

Though, I wonder if it would be worth while if I made a whole model with Cedar. hmmm
