This weekend I visited the USS Constitution in the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston. I was surprised to see the ship under repair, with all of the upper masts and yards down on the ground. I took a bunch of pictures and put a few in the gallery. I was able to get some close up shots of the yards and rigging, and I've included a picture of what the ship looks like now. I can put more pictures into the gallery if anyone is interested.

There were a few items I was not able to recognize, which are the other pictures I've attached here. I was wondering if folks on the site know what they are.

Thanks.http://shipmodeling.net/photopost/data/1042/thumbs/Ship_as_it_looks_now_-_sad.JPG (http://shipmodeling.net/photopost/data/1042/Ship_as_it_looks_now_-_sad.JPG)http://shipmodeling.net/photopost/data/1042/thumbs/No_idea_what_this_is.JPG (http://shipmodeling.net/photopost/data/1042/No_idea_what_this_is.JPG)http://shipmodeling.net/photopost/data/1042/thumbs/What_is_this.JPG (http://shipmodeling.net/photopost/data/1042/What_is_this.JPG)http://shipmodeling.net/photopost/data/1042/thumbs/What_is_structure_on_left.JPG (http://shipmodeling.net/photopost/data/1042/What_is_structure_on_left.JPG)

I'll be going there in about 6 months. I hope they have it back together when we get there. Thanks for the pics.

Great pics Tom! Thank you. I am currently working on a scratch on the Constitution. Different perspectives always help.
As for the pics, The second one from the left appears to be the Martingale: Def - A nautical martingale comprises the parts of standing rigging which strengthen the bowsprit and jib boom against the force of the head stays. The third I believe is a bracket for stowage of the lower studding sail boom. Either of which I have not gotten to on my ship. The first one on the left I am most certain is a crane...I couldn't resist. Not sure what you were looking at in the to flanking pictures. Thank you again for the shots. If you get time upload the others.

Thanks

OK, I'll put some more pictures up when I get a chance.

DKuehn - They said the repairs will be completed in 2010. They were building a roof over the main deck because they are going to replace the whole deck. I don't know how much of that will be finished in 6 months.

I have put some pictures in a Picasa Web Album, since I didn't want to upload them 5 at a time. You can access it here:

I have other but I think this set covers most details.

Hi Tom,

I just viewed your pictures. Very nice job. I haven't been to see her since the late 1980's so it was nice to see your pic's.
In the last photo on the right you were asking about the two brackets there. They are for the stowage of a third anchor while at sea.
The repair work is estimated to take until September 2009 to complete but I have no idea if they are on schedule or not.

Thanks again.
