Being a carpener, I am used to working eith wood, but, building ship models requires a different set of tools. Also being a fly-fisherman, i have a collection of tools for small scale work. However, i never made the connection between the two!! In f;yfishing, you work with small threads, just as modeling. there are a great number of tools and materials for small scale work. All flytying thread is prewaxed, as what we need for models. Also, the tools, i.e. scissors, are needed to cut close. And one other thing that I had forgotten about, but now use, is fly tying head cement. it is designed to penetrate waxed threads and hold tightly, no build up like CA does. just thought I would throw these ideas out there and see if anyone has any opinions!

Very interesting. Never thought of using fly thread. I've lived near the Atlantic Ocean all my life and have done plenty of surf, bay and ocean fishing, but never fly casting. Learn some thing new every day. Can you give a list of recommended types and or sizes, and the type of glue? Maybe brand names? Any sites that sell these products?

Most any of the tools can be found in any sport site on the web, I'm sure, but as with all else, I tend to buy better to buy less times. Orvis has a very good selection of scissors and other tools. One I forgot to mention is called a hackle plier. I find it works for keeping tension on lines while I'm fiddleing ei==with a knot. As for head cement, no real brand names, havent found a bad one yet and I have used 6 or 7 different brands.
