Anyone building a Bluenose model based on a set of measured drawings Commander L. B. Jenson produced in the early 1970s?

Why are you asking Olavi? Any particular reason?

Hi Winston, Im glad you asked. Considering the size of this modeling society and the fact that so many members seem to be Bluenose enthusiasts I was hoping to find someone who already had the courage to bite the bullet..

As you know, these plates are so good they could be used to construct a third Bluenose as seaworthy as the first. Cmdr Jenson even said that "a model made, faithfully, from these drawings could be photographed and pass for the original."

It must be nearly forty years since I first read the Bluenose book by Brian and Phil Backman. At that time I passionately wanted to make a fine model of the ship and even wrote to Smith & Rhuland in Lunenburg only to find out there never had been any drawings. Well, now I could do it.

Being from the east coast of Canada and having lived in Nova Scotia for about 15 years I've had many chances to be able to visit the Bluenose II. Unforunately, I had not been involved in modeling at that time or I would have paid more attention and taken "a lot" more pictures! LOL

It is definitely one of the ships on my list to build.

As you noted there do seem to be a lot of people here in the forum though that are building this model. It would be interesting to know from what kits or plans they are using.

Hi Olavi,

To write up the practicum on the construction of the Bluenose on scale 1:48, I consult the plans by L.B. Jenson.

His book "Bluenose II - Saga of the Great Fishing Schooners" is a must for any shipmodeler who is building the Bluenose or the Bluenose II

More over, the drawings by H.W.Elliot and Captain J.W.Collins are better than photos.

Here is the site where you can order this book:
