i am newbie to wooden ships , but not to modeling. i'm wondering if it is acceptable to run the planks in short pieces, and if need be to add cleets to the blukheads to catch these shorter planks. have researched web about planking but have not seen this method used. just started building my first boat and is going slow, (which i expected), but am getting ready for the hull planks. thanks for your help.

Hi Frank,

Do you mean for single planked? If so, cut the plank lengths to scale (usually no more than four frames (bulkheads) across). If it's the first layer of a double planked hull, then run the first planking in short lengths to your convenience, then the final planking as above (to scale).
