Images of your finished projects on products in the Ships'
Store! |
| |
| You've put a
lot of hard work and sweat in to your model. And there it sits in a display
case (keeping it safe from those darn Cats!) or on your mantle piece. Maybe,
besides family members, a few of your friends have seen your work of beauty.
Well, wouldn't you like to "show" off your model (at least an
image of it) for all the world to see?
At least the world in your own town or city. Now you can. As some
of you may already know, I've set up a Shop at CafePress.com -
Ship Modeling
Forum Ship's Store.
Right now the items for sale display the image of
the Forums'
Logo and some text art -
. I have
changed the shop from a "basic" to a "premium". What
that means is, I can now can
include many more images on as many items as I want. Including items with a
customized image of your finished model. It can be inserted in to the
Forums' Logo and / or you can have word art similar to the one
above.
Some examples: |

Ship Modeling Forum Logo as is... |
I take a blank template... |

 |
|
take the image of your model... |
and, presto, Alfred's own Logo!
(I didn't know he was a member of the Forum?) |

Some of the items: |

Here's two
items I just ordered for myself:
Ship Modeling Forum
Trucker Hat and
Ship
Modeling Forum Mug. Be sure to click on the link for "View Larger" so
you can get an idea of the actual image shown on the items. |
| |
| As I've been
playing around with the shop, uploading and trying out different images I've
noticed one thing. A solid white or solid light colored background looks much better
than darker colors. As an example: |
This
doesn't show up as well on the items. And it also has a multi-tone dark
background. When I try to match the rest of the logos' color to the image
background colors, it doesn't blend in as well as a white solid background. |
| |
| So you say, "How do I
get my image on a product I want?" Easy. Go to this link -
Ship
Model Gallery. Look for and click on, let's say the link for the
Conny.
As you can see, I set up these six example categories for sampling purposes
(I just picked the first six that popped in to my tiny brain, so don't get
jealous if your modeling project isn't there! LOL). They don't have any
products in them as yet. Not until you contact me and send a photo (s) of
your model. Each vessels Category, I'll pick the Bluenose, will have sub
-Categories for each member that has a Bluenose Model. So under Category -
Bluenose: Sub-Categories - Alfred E. Neuman's - Bluenose, Bugs Bunny's
Bluenose, etc, etc. (Bugs Bunny? I've been sitting at this keyboard for too
long!) |

Here's how:
- Take a photo (s) of your finished model. It HAS to be in the
following format:
- For inclusion in the Logo template , at least 2000 pixels by
2000 pixels (10 inches by 10 inches), 200 to 300 DPI (dots per inch) in PNG (Portable Network
Graphics) file extension. If you can't do it in png format, I'll
arraign for you to upload to me in tiff (Tagged Image File Format)
format. I can then convert it png. Most digital cameras can take
tiff images. Tiff images have no compression. There're also know as
"raw" image files. Also, if you want, send me a few different photos
for comparison.
- For text word art, just send me the text you want, the type of
Font (the above examples are in
Black Chancery,
matches the font for the
Ship Modeling
Forum on the Logo). If you want just text like Alfred's
(will do anything for food!) please don't make it too long. It may
not size well on the products.
The reason for such very large images and file sizes (the above
formatted files may reach up to 4 mega bytes) is so the images will be as
sharp as possible on the products. The PNG format is also the best for this
type of printing. You can downsize a large, high resolution image very
nicely, but you can't make a small, low resolution bigger and expect good
results.
Click here to view a full size image of the Forums' Logo
and you'll see how sharp it is. And that is only at 800 x 800 in .jpg
format! |
| |
| A note about
background and extra spacing around the image. Try and take the photo of
your model against a solid, white or light colored background. The extra spacing
around the model is so it can be "chopped" (circle cut) properly for the
Logo image: |
| |
|
|
 |
 |
|
Good, enough spacing around the model |
No Good, too tight of a shot. |
| As you can see, it
makes a big difference. Remember, you can resize and crop down, but not up! |
| |
| So take and
pick out your best photo of your model. Format to the above specifications,
add any text if you like and
contact me for details for emailing. You could also add, if you want, a
brief description of your experience with building your model. I can add it
to the header in your models' sub-category. |
| |
| So send me your photos, text, descriptions and
the items you want your custom images placed on. I can very easily add all of the
products with a couple of keystrokes (bulk product placement) if you want.
I'll send you a link to view the images prior to placing them on any of the items
for your approval. |

I think this
will work out very well. Any monies from the Ships' Store will hopefully pay
for running the Forum and members can showcase their models for family and
friends on custom made, one of a kind products. Great for giving as gifts
too! Gee! I wonder if your better half would like a
Ship
Modeling Forum Pink Jr. Ringer T-Shirt with the logo of your HMS Bounty
on the front? How about rover with his
Ship
Modeling Forum Dog T-Shirt that says - "I'm a Model Shipwright - Will
work for food". Or give your boss a nice
Ship Modeling Forum Mousepad with the photo of your Bluenose II Logo
(brownnoser!). Or should that be, bluenoser!
A good way to have your own
custom image on many fine products while helping to
support the Forum at the same time. As for me, I can't
wait to have my first cup of java in my
Ship
Modeling Forum Mug and wear my custom made
Ship Modeling Forum
Trucker Hat to work for the first time! Maybe my better half
(girlfriend) would like a nice, tight fitting
Ship
Modeling Forum Jr. Spaghetti Tank Top or a
Gifts
for Her BBQ Apron. Got to think about that one!
Or do you think she'd go for a Ship Modeling Forum - Alfred E.
Neuman - Bluenose II Coffee Mug for our anniversary?
Thanks, John
PS: Oh. By the way. Did you read about the "Crazed
Model Shipwright"?
Update - 02/17/08 - I received my Coffee Mug and Truckers Hat with the
Forums' Logo today. I wanted to see how they came out on some actual
products. I was most pleasantly surprised! The images are crystal clear and
all of the detail in the Logo shows up crisp with no fuzzy edges. The colors
of the Logo on the products matches exactly what is on the image file. I
must say, it is quite a thrill to see ones' own handy work displayed like
this. Click
here to see a photo. |
