Year or period represented: From launching in 1945 thru early 1960's

History: The USS Gearing was the initial ship of that class of destroyer and some believe it is the "classic" image of a "DD".

Scale and / or dimensions: Model is 48" in length by 6" in width.

Construction method / materials used: Model is constructed primarily of balsa with some hardwood dowels and piano wire.

Additional information: The model was completed in March of 1958 and, upon my graduation from college in 1960, it went into storage where it has remained until being taken out for this contest.

Research: Very general details were gotten from US Navy drawings available as a "PR" item back in the 1950s. Details on guns, torpedo tubes, etc were gotten by researching library books for photos.
